Bubble glass is glass with air trapped inside it, and those bubbles are the reason this shade does not behave like a plain amber one. Each bubble refracts the light passing through it, so the shade fills with tiny points of brightness and the glow lands on the table below with texture in it rather than as a flat wash of colour.
